Class Is In Session! Hebrew, Theology, and Biblical Spirituality

“There is certainly something wrong with the religious life of a theological student who does not study. But it does not quite follow that therefore everything is right with his religious life if he does study. It is possible to study—even to study theology—in an entirely secular spirit.” – B.B. Warfield

Writer’s note: This website will not be used to plagerize or reproduce any material from the classroom and the teacher’s hard work. It aims primarily at taking each lesson, internalizing it and producing original thoughts through what is being learned.

Hebrew I

  • Professor: Dr. Andrew King – an expert in Hebrew (He may or may not be an actual King)
  • Required Reading: Howell, Adam J., A Grammatical Sketch of Biblical Hebrew, 2nd edition. and Howell, Adam J., A Grammatical Sketch of Biblical Hebrew Workbook, 2nd edition

This course is learning basic Hebrew. Through these studies, the end result should be to translate Genesis 37-50. Note: I’m debating on what I will write about this class specifically as I’m learning it. I might try just to write the vocabulary as well as important tips for how to learn Hebrew, but I believe it’s going to be like any language: repetition and more reptition.

Learning the original languages is important to any biblical study. While various bible translations (KJV, ESV, NIV, NLT, etc) do a great job of conveying what the original languages say, not all translations agree and to render an accurate interpretation for preaching requires understanding how the original languages work.

Theology I

Someone recently said to me, “I wanted to draw closer to God so I signed up for Theology I”. This stuck with me, and because of what she said I felt the same pull to add this class this semester. This will be a deep dive into very important theological doctrines of Revelation, the Nature of God, Creation and Providence, Angelelology (study of Angels), Anthropology (study of man), and Harmatology (study of sin). It is my eager expectation and hope that through the study of Theology, it should increase Doxology.

Biblical Spirituality

How does a man or woman draw near to God, to live close to Him in such a way that brings lasting spiritual joy and comfort to weather all of life’s storms? By living a Holy life, distinct from the world, under the authority of the Word of God, by the Spirit and Power of God. Professor Whitney’s class is aimed precisely with that goal in mind. His in depth class will cover the disciplines of Christian living to promote Biblical spirituality through Bible reading (including meditation), praying, fasting, journaling, and serving. It is my eager expectation and hope that my (and your) love for Christ will grow through the exercises in this class.
